CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Union College men's hockey sophomore John Prokop was named a unanimous All-ECAC Hockey First Team honoree, the conference announced on Thursday.

Prokop leads the team with 35 points (8-27-35) in 34 games this season. In conference play, Prokop is third in the conference in assists (18), assists per game (0.86), tied for fifth in points (24) and fifth in points per game (1.14).

Nationally, Prokop is 16th in assists per game (0.79) and tied for fifth among defensemen. In points per game, he is 36th with 1.03 points per game and fourth among defensemen.

The sophomore becomes the first Union skater to earn All-ECAC Hockey First Team honors since Mike Vecchione and Spencer Foo were both recognized in the 2016-17 season.

Among all Union defensemen, Prokop sits in second in single-season points, four back from Mat Bodie '14 from the 2013-14 season. Prokop is tied for second in single-season goals with eight and tied for second in single-season assists with 27.

Prokop was named the ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week twice this season and also earned Defender of the Month honors for November. The blueliner was also nominated for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award this year.

Prokop is the second Union skater to earn All-ECAC Hockey honors this season as senior Liam Robertson was honored yesterday with a spot on the All-ECAC Hockey Second Team.

Union is back in action on Friday for the best-of-three ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals against Dartmouth College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
